Recommendation Engine¶
Migrate Users to Creative Commons Artists¶
The tracks scrobbled by users are likley to be commercial with a selection of creative commons tracks. The recommendation engine should identify similarities between commercial artists and creative commons artists then given a profile built from commercial tracks scrobbled, creative commons artists should be proposed which would match that profile. In this way, users could be introduced to creative commons artists in a way that is much less of a struggle.
Over time, the users themselves would be extending the database which would allow these links to be made, and in this way, the site could solve a the "blank label" effect with Jamendo etc. Without somthing like this, using Jamendo, or other creative commons music sites for the average user is an experience akin to entering a large music superstore, where all of the disks have had the labels removed because they are unfamiliar with all the artists.
I like this idea, but I would like to see a distinction between free and semi-free. For example, it should be possible for the recommendation engine to have a setting that allows the user to choose between all artists, free and semi-free artists, and only free artists. Creative Commons licenses should also not be the only thing available. Songs under other licenses (such as the Free Art license) and the public domain should be available to the user as well. In all settings, it should be possible to see the license alongside the song where applicable.
